Alappuzha: Two workers, who were out to dig a borewell in Mannancherry, died of asphyxia on Tuesday.
Amal and Gireesh were the deceased. Four people had entered the well, but only the lives of Mahesh and Jith could be saved.
As soon as the pipe for the borewell was lowered, slushy water gushed out along with a pungent-smelling gas. The slushy water covered eight rings of the well, trapping the laborers. The presence of four people inside the well and the narrow mouth of the well accentuated the situation.
The fire force personnel took out the dead bodies.
The incident took place at the compound of Ponnadan Lime Industries owned by Hamid of Ambalakkadavu.
