Leopard mauls 4-year-old boy in Thrissur, severed head found near his home Saidu, the son of migrant labourer Musharaf Ali from Jharkand.

Valparai (Thrissur): A leopard mauled a four-year-old child to death near Valparai in Thrissur district on Thursday evening. The severed head of Saidu, son of migrant worker Musharaf Ali, was found around 300 meters away from his house.

Saidu was attacked around 6 pm when he had come out of his house after taking a shower. Once the estate workers and forest officials were alerted, the leopard had dragged the child into the tea plantation. They began combing operations immediately and found the boy's body in the tea garden.

Tension prevailed in the area following the incident as plantation workers staged a protest against government's failure to take proper measures to check wild animals entering human habitats.

Tahsildar Gunasekharan, range officer Shekhar and CI Thirumeni were not allowed to go near the body by the workers.
