Thrissur: At 22 years of age, Gebin Maxi is a sought-after researcher in the United States. The Thrissur native has patented the integrated linear parallel hybrid technology that could increase a vehicle’s fuel efficiency by up to 50 percent by combining elements of petrol and electric engines.
Maxi, who has already received funds from Uber investor David Cohen, has been toying with the idea ever since he was a 10th-grade student at the Vidyasram School in Chennai. He received a boost when he met Cohen at a startup conference held in Colorado. After completing the higher secondary course, Maxi teamed up with computer scientist John Bollman to found Maglev Motors.
He spent two years on the idea before it could be presented to the US patent board. The technology increases mileage by 20 to 50 per cent and cuts down emission by 60 percent.
The young innovator is the son of Alice and Maxi Mathew, a former manager with the Hindustan Unilever. The family is settled in Chennai but traces their roots to Ayyanthole near Thrissur.
