Changanasserry: Social reformer Mannathu Padmanabhan's 141st birth anniversary celebrations will be held on Monday and Tuesday at Mannam Nagar at NSS headquarters in Perunna.
The celebrations began from Monday at 8am, beginning with pushparchana (floral tributes) at Mannam memorial. At 10.15am, NSS general secretary G Sukumaran Nair spoke about the activities of the organization during the Akhila Kerala Nair Prathinidhi Sammelan.
It was presided over by NSS president PN Narendranadhan Nair. Several proposals will be presented during the meeting.
Being a long-standing demand of the NSS, it will also discuss the government's decision to provide reservation for the economically backward among the forward communities in appointments to devaswom boards.
Though state governments have taken favourable decisions for the economically backward among the forward communities, the meeting will deplore the inaction by the central government on the Sinhu Commission report.
The Mannam Jayanthi Sammelan will be inaugurated by Aswathi Tirunal Gauri Lakshmi Bayi, member of the royal family of erstwhile Travancore, tomorrow at 10.45am. Archbishop Mar Joseph Perumthottam will deliver the inaugural address. Guruvayoor Devaswom Board chairman N Peethambara Kurup and professor Madavana Balakrishnan will speak.
