Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said here the state has much to be proud of the year that has just passed, as it saw a handful of projects focused on the welfare of people, and also witnessed interventions to expedite the development process.
At the same time, he expressed the feeling that the unexpected jolt from Cyclone Ockhi cast a dark shadow over our happiness towards the year-end.
The chief minister shared his thoughts on 2017 and expectations on the emerging year in a post on the social media.
Vijayan pointed out that the government called off New Year specila beach-side celebrations in view of the Ockhi tragedy that sank the coastline into deep sorrow.
Instead, candles were lit to express solidarity with the affected people.
The government is set to implement a support plan for those affected by Cyclone Ockhi and has sought financial assistance from all possible sources.
This is a time when we have to sincerely activate our culture that expresses sympathy with fellow beings. Let us take up that responsibility in the new year.
Best wishes to everyone for the New Year, the chief minister wrote.
