Thiruvananthapuram: Eight years after a beautician was found dead in her house near Thozhuvankodu, her soap director-husband has been sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering her. Devan K Panicker aka Devadas, aged 40, will also pay Rs 2 lakh as fine.
A fast-track court in Thiruvananthapuram found him guilty of killing his wife on December 28, 2009, putting a ghastly end to a marriage on the rocks. He struck Archana, his second wife, with a metal lamp before tying her up and stabbing her. Her decomposed body was found in the rented house three days later.
Devadas, an associate director of a few television serials, borrowed some money from his relatives in Thrissur and left Kerala before the news broke. He had been living around places of worship in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka before the police laid a trap for him by forcing a former associate to offer him money.
Devadas and Archana had filed a divorce petition in the family court but the suit had stumbled on the woman’s refusal for a mutual plea, the police said.
