In a four part series, Onmanorama brings to you how the rich and famous in Kerala register premium cars outside the state, where taxes are lower. This is the second part.
Thiruvananthapuram: In order to register her luxury vehicle in Puducherry, actor Amala Paul had given the address of a single room on the top floor of a three-story building. The room doesn't even have basic facilities. Onmanorama got the video of the inspection carried out by the motor vehicles department officials at the No.6, St Theresa's Street, Thilaspet, Puducherry.
According to the report submitted by the motor vehicles department officials to the transport commissioner, the building's owner's name is Umesh. Umesh said that the single room on the third floor has been given to Amala Paul on rent for a year. He said that the original rent contract is with Amala Paul. Though he said he could present the copy of the contract to the probe team, he failed to do that.
He was willing to show them the room, located on the top floor of the building and behind the terrace. It was just one room with no facility at all.
When the team wanted Umesh to open the room, he said the key is with Amala Paul. The room can't be seen as a place where a celebrity can live. The surroundings of the room were dirty.
However, in the affidavit submitted to register her luxury vehicle in Puducherry she has said that she is staying at the Puducherry address for the past one year.
Besides, to prove her residency, she had submitted LIC's New Endowment Plan policy certificate. The rent contract will be examined.
