Solar case: decision on action against leaders, officials Wednesday

Thiruvananthapuram: The state cabinet will decide Wednesday on the action to be initiated against political leaders and top officials based on the Solar Commission report.

Even though the government had earlier decided to file corruption and sexual harassment cases against former chief minister Oommen Chandy and several others, it had not proceeded further over concerns that such an action could lead to other legal issues.

The government has taken legal advise from retired Supreme Court judge Arijit Pasayat. He has advised that the government could order further investigation into the case, but has also pointed out certain legal hurdles.

A special assembly session has been called on Thursday to submit the Solar Commission report. In the House, the government must also table its action-taken report.

A state committee meeting of the ruling CPM held Monday has decided about the next course of action in the case and Wednesday's cabinet meeting will take this into consideration.

The government’s earlier decision was to launch investigation against 22 prominent people.
