Solar strikes back: CM Pinarayi in the dock for naming sexual assault victim Certain statements made by CM Pinarayi during the press meet on Wednesday are being used against him.

Thrissur: It was meant to be the ruling LDF government's salvo at the opposition UDF as a charged-up Pinarayi Vijayan ordered a Vigilance probe against former CM Oommen Chandy and others in the multi-crore solar scam Wednesday. But now certain statements made by CM Pinarayi during that press meet are being used against him.

During the press meet Wednesday, CM Pinarayi said that a case would also be registered against Chandy and a few other leaders on the basis of a letter written by the solar scam accused, insisting that seeking sexual favors amounted to corruption.

However, on Friday, Thrissur DCC general secretary John Daniel filed a complaint with the Thiruvanathapuram city police commissioner against the CM for naming a sexual assault victim.

It was not known how the police department that reports to the CM plans to deal with the complaint.

As per the law, no person is supposed to name a sexual assault victim. Allegations against the CM comes a day after the Kunnamangalam Magistrate Court asked the police to register a case against independent legislator P.C. George for naming the actress who was sexually assaulted in Kochi on February 17.

The court interfered after a complaint was filed by Girish Babu, a social activist, seeking action against George for revealing the identity of the actress during a TV channel discussion.
