Naming the victim: Court asks cops to book PC George The court interfered after a complaint was filed by Girish Babu, a social activist, seeking action against George for revealing the identity of the actress during a TV channel discussion.

Kozhikode: The Kunnamangalam Magistrate Court has asked the police to register a case against independent legislator P.C. George for naming the actress who was sexually assaulted in Kochi on February 17.

The court interfered after a complaint was filed by Girish Babu, a social activist, seeking action against George for revealing the identity of the actress during a TV channel discussion.

The actress had written a letter to chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan in August to bring to his attention to the statements the Poonjar MLA has been making against her. In her letter, the actress said women needed to be afraid of the public consciousness created through the words of people like George. She even mentioned George's statements challenging the State Women's Commission which had registered a case against him for making derogatory statements against the actress.

George, who is known for his arrogant behavior and outspoken nature, has been making statements against the actress ever since actor Dileep was arrested for allegedly plotting the attack on her. George has repeatedly said that Dileep was framed in the case. Dileep was granted bail by the Kerala High Court after 85 days of remand.

The actress, who has worked in Tamil and Telugu films besides Malayalam, was abducted and molested inside her car on February 17 in Kochi.
