Puthenkurish: Scammers are perhaps the true innovators. They are never short of ideas to pick your pocket, sometimes even with your consent too. Well, the one-line of the story is always the same, so is its moral. This time, a young man from Ernakulam was hoodwinked by fraudsters who used the name of a multi-national mobile major to cheat him. He lost Rs.3, 300 and received a cheap replica of a turtle and a few metal pieces in return!
Some days back, the young man from Kaaninadu in Puthenkurish had a phone call from a lady who introduced herself as an employee from Samsung headquarters.
The caller congratulated him for becoming one of the 10 lucky persons to be selected by the company from among its customers. The company had couriered a packet of gifts to him, she informed.
When she directed him to accept the courier by remitting Rs.3, 300 in the post office, the young man sensed a trap. He questioned her many times. But she insisted on and finally managed to convince him that he won't lose any money as a cheque for the same amount would be enclosed in the gift packet. The courier reached him within two days. He accepted the VPP by paying Rs.3,300 as directed by the caller.
It was too late when the man realized that he was fooled. In the packet, he saw a small replica of a turtle and some metal pieces with some obscure signs and symbols inscribed on them. When he contacted the fraudsters, they asked him to immerse the turtle in the sea. The young man also complained that the tricksters threatened him several times after that. He has approached the state Cyber Cell with a complaint.
