Thiruvananthapuram: Actor-turned-politician Mukesh has told the police that actress attack case prime accused Pulsar Suni was an 'acquaintance.'

The police recorded the statement of Mukesh and Anwar Sadath, MLAs representing Kollam and Aluva assembly constituencies respectively, at the MLA hostel here on Sunday.

The police decided to record the statement of Mukesh after it emerged that Suni had worked as his driver for one year. Mukesh said Suni knews his family members as well.

Mukesh told the police that he came to know of the attack on the actress through media reports.

Sadath, who is a friend of actor Dileep, said the cops asked him about the friendship with the actor, his financial dealings and foreign trips. He told the police that he had no connection with Suni.

Speaker objects

Though the police had plans to record the statement of P.T. Thomas, senior Congress leader and Thrikkakkara MLA,  they had to postpone it after the Assembly speaker Sreeramakrishnan objected doing it at the MLA hostel.

The speaker expressed dissatisfaction over the incident to state police chief Loknath Behera. He also sought an explanation from the chief marshal.

Anwar Sadath had been under the scanner for his alleged involvement in the case in which Dileep is the second accused; while Thomas has been strongly pitching for the victim actress.

Thomas, involved in the case right from the beginning, was instrumental in keeping the investigation alive. He was also one of the first people to reach the house of actor-director Lal where the actress had taken shelter immediately after the brutal assault in a moving car.

Anwar Sadath had earlier rejected reports of any real estate dealings with Dileep and vouched his support for the victim. He had also stated that he was unaware of any conspiracy. He said Dileep, when confronted by him, had sworn in the negative. The interrogators who seemed to be unconvinced of his statements were exploring the possibility of any information the legislator could be concealing, given his long-standing relations with the actor.
