Thrissur: Billu has a world-famous selfie. The canteen worker at a sports club at Thrissur was taking a shot at reflected glory when he requested actor Dileep to pose for a selfie with him. Little did he know that the moment would turn crucial in a sensational crime investigation.
The selfie was a key piece of evidence that helped the police unravel the yarns spun by Dileep ever since he came under a shadow of doubt in a case related to the attack of an actress. It punched a hole in the actor’s claim that he knew no one by the name of ‘Pulsar’ Suni, the criminal who waylaid the actress near Angamaly and tortured her inside the moving car.
As fate would have it, Suni had unintentionally photobombed Billu’s selfie with Dileep near the basketball court at the Tennis Academy at Kinattingal.
Dileep was at the club in November to shoot a movie when Suni visited him. The police landed at the club in search of clues after they found out that Dileep and Suni were under the limits of the same mobile phone tower between 3 pm to 6 pm on November 13.
They rifled through the pictures taken by the staff and hit the jackpot on Billu’s phone.
Billu was the center of attraction on Thursday when the investigating team took the disgraced star to the club to collect evidence of the conspiracy. They marked the place where the selfie was taken and the spot where Suni was seen in the photo. They also recorded Billu’s statements.
Dileep was also taken to the indoor tennis court where parts of ‘Georgettann’s Pooram’ was shot. The actor refused to answer the questions of the reporters. Perhaps he was recollecting a speech he made on the nearby Thekkinkadu Ground soon after the assault on the actress. Dileep, who had already come under the scanner, had sworn by the deity in the Thrissur Vadakkunnathan Temple that he had no knowledge of the attack.
