Kozhikode: Renowned Malayalam writer and filmmaker M.T. Vasudevan Nair celebrated his sathabhishekam, the 84th birthday, on Saturday.

The jnanpith awardee, who had a galaxy of visitors from various walks of life at his house, Sitara, thanked 'the times and the almighty' for allowing him such a long life.

MT was honored by Malayala Manorama chief editor and managing director, Mammen Mathew, on the auspicious occasion.

Mathew, along with Jayant Mammen Mathew, Manorama deputy editor and director, visited the writer at his residence in Kozhikode and adorned him with a shawl.

Born at Kudallur in Palakkad, Vasudevan Nair, fondly called as 'MT,' rose to fame through his well-narrated short stories, novels and scripts.

He has directed seven films and written the screenplay for over 50 films.

His famous novels include Manju, Kaalam, Asuravithu and Randamoozham. The shooting for the film based on Randamoozham is set to start in a few months.
