How an SMS brought a stolen car back to its owner Representational image

Kottayam: A car which was stolen a year ago from Milan, who hails from Manganam in Kottayam, was located in Bengaluru. Milan received an SMS from a service center in Bengaluru and he did not waste time. He rushed to the police and showed them the message. Soon, the police found the car from Bengaluru with the help of their Karnataka counterparts.

A year ago, one Kishore and a friend Arun Gopan rented Milan’s car. They took the car to Bengaluru and sold it without Milan’s knowledge or consent. A man from Alappuzha, who had settled in Bengaluru bought the car from Kishore and Arun Gopan without knowing its antecedents. When he gave the car for service, the service center sent a message to its registered owner. The police had caught Kishore and Arun Gopan but could not locate the car.

Assistant superintendent of police, Kottayam, Chaitra Theresa John led the investigation. The car was seized by the police from Bengaluru. Arun Gopan is a habitual offender and has many cases of assault, robbery, and homicide against him. He is currently serving term in a different case; Kishore is out on bail in the car theft case.
