Health inspector cooks up 'dirty cakes' in bakery, ends with egg on his face The official on a routine check at the Arya’s Grand Bakery pulled up the staff for keeping cakes on the ground but his claims were refuted by the surveillance footage.

Kottayam: A health inspector with the Kottayam municipality was caught with his hand in the cookie jar after he tried to cook up a case of dirty cakes in a bakery in the town.

The official on a routine check at the Arya’s Grand Bakery pulled up the staff for keeping cakes on the ground but his claims were refuted by the surveillance footage that showed him entering the kitchen along with a colleague and dragging down the cakes before raising a stink.

The restaurant owner vehemently denied any possibility of such carelessness in his air-conditioned establishment but the official apparently threatened him to be prepared to close down the bakery.

Still incredulous, the owner got the surveillance footage examined and found out the truth. He showed the footage to all his patrons present at the restaurant before complaining to the district collector and the municipality of the official’s misconduct. The restaurateurs’ association has also filed a complaint against the official.

The officials had kept the staff out of the kitchen before “discovering” the cakes on the floor.
