Tuition teacher held for capturing obscene images of students in TVPM Representational image

Thiruvananthapuram: The Museum police on Tuesday arrested a teacher of a private tuition center in the city on charges of furtively capturing obscene pictures of girl students on his mobile-phone camera.

The arrested, identified as Arun Kumar, was running a tuition center at RP lane in Kowdiar. He had been engaged in the wicked act of recording videos and photos of female students by placing the mobile handset under their desks, the police said.

The computer and the cellphones recovered from the accused reportedly contained footage of half-naked women and girl students.

Arun Kumar has been associated with several tuition centers in the city for the past 18 years, the police said.

The arrest was based on a complaint lodged by a housewife in Nanthencode. She alleged that the accused befriended her and filmed nude pictures before trying to blackmail her.

The police said that he had created fake profiles on Facebook and Whatsapp using the name ‘Ashiq’ with an intention to cheat gullible women. He used a lesser-known Hindi serial actor’s photo as his display picture to lure the victims that included local housewives, working women and foreigners.

He was nabbed by a team led by Museum CI C. K. Dinil. SI J. Sunil, Jose Kurian and Chandrababu were also part of the squad.
