Kundara rape case: now, 10-year-old girl's grandmother arrested Latha Mary

Kollam: The Kerala police team probing the rape and alleged suicide of a 10-year-old girl in Kundara on Saturday arrested the victim's grandmother.

The child's grandfather, Victor, is under arrest for raping the girl for over a year.

Victor's wife Latha Mary was under the police scanner for her alleged role in the sexual assault case. Police named her as the second accused in the case after it was concluded that the sexual abuse took place with the grandmother's knowledge.

Kundara rape case opens Pandora's box of horror: Victor now faces probe in minor boy's death

Latha Mary was arrested from a hospital where she was undergoing treatment. But it needs to be pointed out it was Latha Mary, who informed the police about the grandfather abusing the child.

The police said that the culprit began molesting the girl after her father left home a year ago and created opportunities to prey on the hapless victim.

The girl allegedly committed suicide two months ago. The postmortem report had said that she was subjected to sexual abuse even days before her death.

Crime Branch to probe 14-year-old boy's death

Meanwhile, the Crime Branch has taken over the probe into a 14-year-old boy's death.

The boy was found hanging in their house, which is next to Victor's, in 2010. Days after his death, Victor's son Shibu told the boy's sister over the phone that the father-son duo killed the minor child.

Though the family complained to officials and police that the boy was murdered by Victor and Shibu, they were allegedly asked to keep mum.

The boy's mother even said that had they listened to her complaints then, Victor's granddaughter could have been saved.
