Kattapana: A bus owner's donated kidney has given a new life to an auto driver. Kattapana Kunnel Piuskutty John (45) did not even tell his close friends that he was donating one of his kidneys to Thrissur Elavalli Podiyada Anil (44) who was a total stranger to him.

Piuskutty's wife Sisy, and children Ajit and Basil had apprehensions, but when everything was explained to them, they agreed. Not only that, Anil's mother-in-law Jayanti was inspired by his act and donated her kidney to Nidhin (26) of Thrissur, giving him a new life.

Piuskutty owns the Ammu bus, which operates from Kattapana. He was not at all keen to tell anyone about his donation. However, many others came forward to follow suit after knowing about it.

Piuskutty had come to understand that kidney donation does not cause any serious health problems. He then contacted Kidney Federation of India chairman Fr. Davis Chirammal. Procedures took time, but doctors found that his kidney was suitable for Anil.

He was admitted to a private hospital in Kochi on April 19. A keyhole surgery was done on April 21. Piuskutty has been advised three months' rest.

The surgery cost Rs. 8 lakhs. Anil, whose financial situation is far from happy, is married and is the father of two children.

Piuskutty is happy about Jayanti's donation for Nidhin. The youth had accepted his mother's kidney earlier but the results were not satisfactory.
