Thiruvananthapuram: Soorya Krishnamurthy has designed numerous breathtaking spectacles but the showman made sure that his daughter’s wedding was a distinctively frugal affair.
Sita married Chandan Kumar, her batchmate at the civil service academy, at a strikingly simple function in her parents’ house at Thycaud in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday morning. The few guests included film director Adoor Gopalakrishnan, poet Sugathakumari and Krishnamoorthy’s school teacher Peer Muhammed.
Krishnamoorthy said he always wanted to keep the ceremony simple. A lengthy guest list and a grand feast were conspicuously absent. Krishnamoorthy and wife Raji said they had indeed raised some money for the wedding but now plans it to donate to help 20 students complete school.
Sita and Kumar exchanged rings and garlands in the small prayer room in Krishnamoorthy’s house. The immediate family and close friends were in attendance. Former chief minister and administrative reforms commission chairman V S Achuthanandan was among the guests. K S Sabarinathan MLA and his fiancée Divya S Nair, a sub collector, were also there to greet the newlyweds.
Everybody was served a cup of Ambalappuzha palpayasam along with buttermilk.
