After summer vacations the colleges are abuzz with activity. Everyone is going all out to show off. New dresses, new trends. And the latest fad, to hit St Teresa's College, Kochi, this year are bags made out of old clothes.
These bags are being made by the students and teachers who are part of the 'Bhoomimitrasena' in the college. This, they say is part of their mission of being ecofriendly and closer to nature. The bags are of different shapes and sizes depending on what material is being used. The students use curtains, bedsheets, sari and shawls to make bigger bags.
The students have even given training to make these bags to different 'Kudumbasree' units. Training was given to NSS volunteers of various colleges too. The old students and teachers too are part of this venture.
The price of the bags range from Rs 10 to Rs 40. These bags, they say, are the best way to prevent pollution.
