When beauty gels with harmony and harmony with nature, you get a cute home like Minha. The Shahid-Jesna couple’s dream home is located near Kalmandapam in Palakkad, on three-and-a-half cents of land.
This 1,250 sq ft structure is a fine example of how limited land area can be put to maximum use. The structure in contemporary style, has been built to weather the vagaries of Palakkad’s climate. Josna Raphael is an architect who can create wonders out of geometrical designs. Her design for Minha incorporates modern facilities which work in harmony with Nature.
The highlight of the house is its visually appealing elevation. A combination of white, green and yellow sits well on the house. Another striking feature is its varying façades when viewed from different angles and spots. The compound walls and the gate merge with the elevation and look like an extension of the structure. The garden has been laid with pavement tiles.
The aesthetically designed pergolas in strategic points bring in air and light in all abundance. This ensures that the house can fall back on natural light all through the day. The pergola-style car porch has been done up in polycarbonate sheets.
The living room is designed to get maximum space out of the limited floor area. The visual effect is also the same… of expanse and roominess. The sofas, in a combination of black and red, and a wooden teapoy add style to the room. The walls look chic in cladding tiles.
Extreme care has been taken to utilize and maximize the available floor area inside. The space below the staircase has been converted into a pebbled courtyard with the wash area close to it. One special design element is the lack of too many walls which give a cramped effect to rooms. It’s a play of colors inside. It has helped retain the uniqueness of style.
The right side of the wall has been done up in textured violet to hold the TV unit. The dining section is bright and designed in such a way that it lets in a wide view of the outdoors. This is an engaging feature that gives life to the space. Besides, a door to the outside from the dining section is an attractive feature. A small office space has been provided by the side of the dining section.
The staircase area has been done up in the sculpture style. The family living space up doubles up as a home theater too. Here too, the TV unit sits within a textured wall in violet.
There are three bedrooms. They have all been designed in the “open-to-nature” concept. The curios, paintings and embellishments in all bedrooms go with the theme and color of the structure.
The kitchen is simple and comes in a black and white theme. The open terrace has been designed like a large pergola with a covered roof. The terrace is special in that those inside can watch the outside and the happenings around without being seen by others.
Minha is in every way a house that merges well with its surroundings, offering aesthetics and comfort within its limited land space.
