When Shameer felt the urge to build a new home for his family, he found his canvas in an enviable, 10-cent rural plot in Velluvambra near Manjeri.

From the start, Shameer and his wife knew they wanted something minimal, functional and very contemporary. So, they proceeded to assemble a team that could build them the house they envisioned.

Elevation Red-hued 'shera' boards decorate the elevation walls.

Today, the 2,814 sqft house in Velluvambra stands tall as a reflection of his dreams. But a great deal of attention was paid even to apparently insignificant details and this helped in cost-cutting.

The highlight of the house is its eye-catching elevation. Red-hued 'shera' boards decorate the elevation walls. The compound walls and the gate of the house share the same design elements. GI frames and 'shera' boards have gone into the design style of the wall and the gate. Natural stones and green grass complete the landscape layout. Novel design elements like glass roof on GI frames, which make the balcony, stand out for its style and structural finish. Another variation in style is the un-concreted roof over the car porch. Instead, V boards have been used and it comes in an open design as one would find in an industrial work style. The porch has the aesthetic support of a show wall.

The interiors have design elements aplenty. The lavish openings provided inside bring in plenty of light. The highlighter lights in multi colors help in differentiating all the rooms built in the open style.

Interiors The CNC-cut 'jali' work is the highlight of the living room.

The formal living is very protected and private. The CNC-cut 'jali' work is the highlight of the living room. This 'jali' design separates the living and dining sections. The designer furniture in leather fabric perks up the family living and formal living rooms. Vitrified tiles cover the floors.

The family living and dining space have been designed in the open style. A long passage from the main door to the hall is another design special. The ceiling here in long panels of gypsum, veneer, and plywood complement the total look of the space. The TV unit in the living section rests on a wall covered with veneer-plywood paneling.

The dining room has been designed in double height. The custom-made chic dining table in nano-white is an item, which spells style. The hanging lights atop the dining table complete the look of the space. Huge glass windows cover one complete side of the dining section. The glass skylight just above the glass window is a sophisticated design element.

The kitchen in white is simple, elegant and high on utility. A breakfast counter and a pantry complete the picture. The countertop has been done up in nano white.

There are four bedrooms with attached bathrooms. But only two bedrooms have the luxury of wardrobes and dressing corners. Wallpapers cover the bedroom walls and make them attractive. The bedrooms too enjoy the highlighting effect of false ceilings and lights within them.

It goes to the credit of the owner and designer that with a lot of effort the cost could be cut down to a great extent. The materials that have gone into the construction of the interiors and the elevation designs are not too expensive but are fine, quality-wise. In short, the house is an eye-candy.
