Exterior Noorudeen wanted his home to be airy, bright and cheerful.

Noorudeen wanted his home to be airy, bright and cheerful. Designer Mirshad bore this in mind while putting up the house in modern-contemporary style in Chaliyam, Kozhikode. The 3,094 sqft house on 20 cents of lands faces the west with its gaze set on a vast expanse of sea and a receding horizon.

Elevation The black and white combination of the box-style elevation is striking.

The black and white combination of the box-style elevation is striking. The cladding stones on the exterior walls lend substance to the design. The black and white grooves on the elevation are a designer special. A part of the front wall has been paneled completely in glass. This lets in the sunlight and the effect is stunning. The square-shaped car porch juts out of the main elevation and it’s into the sit-out that one enters from this space.

The house had four bath-attached bedrooms, a formal living, a family living, a dining room, prayer area, a kitchen and a work area. A balcony and a study space have been provided upstairs.

Two main doors in the front have been finished in teak. One opens out into the main living room and the other into the dining area. What marks the beauty of the interiors is the wide expanse provided. There’s no clutter anywhere. Beautiful elements in gypsum-veneer-plywood combination are visible in several parts of the house.

Vitrified tiles which gel with the color elements of the wall enhance the look of the house. The custom-made furniture and the family living in double height are elements meant to heighten the sophistication of design. Wall niches in wood are another feature here.

The dining table has been crafted in wood. A double-height opening has been provided in the center of the main hall and floor tiles in gray set apart this area. Wooden blinds to match the color themes cover the windows. Handrails crafted in wood and stainless steel match the cantilever design of the staircase.

There are two bedrooms up and two down with separate color themes. The bedrooms owe their striking looks to design styles like headboard panels in gypsum veneer, which go all the way up to the ceiling, fold ceilings and cove lights.

The kitchen has been done up in white and black. Lights set in gypsum fold ceilings make the place bright. The staircase takes you up to a spacious lobby. What highlights the place is the pergola covered with polycarbonate sheets. A study area also finds its room here.

The garden has a display of pavement tiles. The landscaping shows off the green all around the house. The white of the compound walls goes well with the style of the house.
