The fine elegance of contemporary style meets the simplicity and goodness of tradition at this 3,000 square feet house in Calicut. The house, which belongs to doctor couple Ramesh and Shynu, stands tall in an eight cents plot. The unique design of this house, which projects minimalism in all its beauty, caters to the weather conditions in Kerala. The house couldn’t have a better name than ‘Asthu’, which in Sanskrit means “may your wishes be granted or may your dreams come true”.

House The house, which belongs to doctor couple Ramesh and Shynu, stands tall in an eight cents plot.

Ornate decorations or elaborate designs cannot be seen anywhere in this house. Minimalism begins from the gate itself, which is of the same height as the boundary wall and is made with wooden grooves on a metal frame. The small courtyard is paved with natural stones and the green grass meadows add to its beauty.

Living room The paneling and laminations done in veneer plywood with a wooden finish not only elevates the elegance of the house but also helped to cut down the cost.

A consultation room for the doctor couple is built in a comfortable corner without hindering the privacy of the interior of the house. The patients enter through a separate gate and a well in this small plot was covered using slabs to build a separate passage for them.

The roof tiles paved on the sloping roof is indeed an eye-catching feature of this house. The cladding done in red bricks on the elevation adds a touch of elegance. The spacious interiors are adorned with custom-made furniture. The paneling and laminations done in veneer plywood with a wooden finish not only elevates the elegance of the house but also helped to cut down the cost. Vitrified tiles are used on the floor.

Stairway Wood and steel are used in the railings of the stair case.

There is a long passage in the main hall. The false ceiling in gypsum veneer on top of this passage truly enhances the beauty of the interiors. The lights in warm tone only add to the charm of it. False ceilings with attractive lighting are done in all the main spaces in the house.

The dining area and kitchen are in open style. The dining table is simple, yet elegant. The cupboards and pantry top in the kitchen are all made in veneer. Korean stone is used on table top.

Wood and steel are used in the railings of the stair case. The space below the stairway is wisely utilized by turning it into the wash area. The small pebble court near it is quite an eye-catching feature. Highlighter tiles are used on the walls in the wash area.

Designer Ajex Augustin says that the owners did not make any demands and gave him full freedom in conceptualizing and designing this beautiful house, which celebrates minimalism. As for the owners, their wishes were truly granted, just like the house name says!
