A 1,890 sq ft house on 10 cents of land, with four bedrooms and all facilities on a strict budget of Rs 35 lakh is no small achievement.
Manu Gopinath’s house in Vandanpathal, Mundakkayam, is a testimony to these facts. The plot stood flanked by roads. Construction was quite a challenge for the designer as the plot was a piece of land from where earth had been excavated. The credit of constructing a finely elevated structure on such a strip of land goes to chartered design engineer Srikanth Pangappatt.
The owner was particular about elements of space and expanse. Natural lighting, air and wind had to be in. Accordingly, the four bedrooms with attached bathrooms, formal living and dining were all planned in the open concept. The spacious hall is ideally suited to host parties and get-togethers.
A pergola in one corner of the dining room ensures natural lighting inside. The ground floor houses a car porch, long verandah, two bedrooms, kitchen and a work area. Two more bedrooms and a utility terrace are on the floor up.
The very contemporary elevation, attractive handrails, trendy claddings and matching colors highlight the structure.
