Jose Cherian and family could feel their eyeballs popping out upon seeing their new apartment on the seventh floor of a high-rise on Marine Drive in Kochi. They were nowhere around when the flat was designed.
Though abroad, the couple’s deep love for Kochi made them go for an apartment here. The layout and interiors was assigned to designer Renjit Puthenpurayil who turned out a piece of absolute delight, the ultimate in luxury and sophistication.
A flat built and designed via hi-tech. Mail, phone and whatsapp were the chief modes of communication between the designer and the owner. It was well worth it, for the end product was far beyond their wildest expectations.
The apartment holds three bedrooms. The bedstead in the master bedroom is a mix of wood and plywood. The headboard, embedded into the wall is designed with wooden paneling, painted in white. All the showpieces have separate stands. In fact, everything except the showpieces has been specially designed. Once the curtains in the drawing room are drawn, the visual magic of the backwaters can be seen.
The crockery shelves are new in design. The sofas are in plywood and MDF. The TV walls have been paneled with MDF and covered with wallpaper. Natural stone cladding lend beauty to either side of the television walls. A metal teapoy in the living area is a chic piece, quite out of the ordinary.
The designer has gone in for some unconventional change in the dining area. Gone is the traditional fan atop the dining table. The wall fan set at an apt angle ensures that food does not turn cold and dry once served. A stunning hanging light over the dining table brightens up the place. The dining set made of mahogany is new in design and feel. The lights set behind the paintings make the dining area special.
The splash back yellow is the highlight of the kitchen. The balcony here doubles up as the utility area. The cabinets are made of plywood and MDF. There are no kitchen handles, which jut out and catch your clothes when you least expect it. The LED lights in the fold ceiling spice up the place.
