When simplicity, elegance, novelty and utility join hands, the end product is a picture-perfect finish of a dream house, just like the one owned by M.M. Paulose in Nellimattom, Kothamangalam.
When architect Srikanth Pangappattu was entrusted with the job of renovating an age-old structure and erecting a new one in its place, he did it in style by giving the house a long open verandah, a car porch, an open kitchen and a wide and spacious work area.
Dr Amal and family were very particular that the new house should be built on the foundations of an old heritage.
The family had its set of well-defined priorities…three bedrooms with attached bathrooms, a living hall-cum-dining space, which would offer the needed privacy and also double up as a place where prayers could he held.
The medium-budget house sports a look that’s contemporary, traditional and modern. With its 1,900 sq ft area, its courtyard reflects the bright sunlight for as long as it can. The roof is flat, but the truss roof erected on elevated GI pipes gives the house its lofty elevation. The tiles laid over the roof complement the attractive exterior.
The formal living, the family living and dining area have all an open scheme design, which lets in air, light and breeze all through the day. The openness lends a look of expansiveness to the hall.
The old well as well as the age-old trees with their rich greenery has all been retained.
