Minu Marie Mathew believes that a woman’s jewelry box in incomplete if it doesn’t have statement pieces that are as unique and bold as her personality.
The Thiruvananthapuram based jewelry designer, who runs an online store named ‘ART-ery’, is an avid traveler, a passionate seeker of beauty and an inspiring artist. Perhaps that’s what prompted her to see an entrepreneurial opportunity in jewelry designing.
Born and raised in the capital city, Minu is a graduate in fashion designing and has a PG in Fashion Merchandising from Pearl Academy of Fashion.
After having started her designing career as a merchandiser at popular designer chain store Fabindia, Minu moved on to Espirit and then to several other leading luxury brands in Chennai."I always shuttled between Thiruvananthapuram and Chennai for my career. And traveling has been a part of my life. I have always loved traveling alone," says Minu.
Minu used to handpick the rarities she finds during her expeditions and give it a trendy makeover with the perfect fusion of colors, culture and fashion. But what started as a hobby is now a full-time business for the 30-year-old.
"I started the venture with just 300 pieces in my hand. All of them were sold like hot cakes between my friends and family. This was the spark behind ART-ery. I reinvested the profit to open an online accessory store," says Minu.
Handcrafted stone jewelry, light weighted earrings, belly button studs, nose pins, hand cuffs and scarves are the master pieces of ART-ery.
Minu is always inclined towards fashion. Every single stone and every piece of cloth has an untold story, she says. “I just explore them with passion and give them confidence to take on at the world.
"I'm a nomad. I fear getting stationed if I open a physical store. That's why I prefer online marketing and exhibitions. It's fascinating to watch ART-ery growing."
Minu had recently opened a stall at 'Utsav', a designer wear exhibition organized by Ladies' Circle, Kottayam.
Ask about her success mantra and she says, "Passion. That is most important thing when you open a business." The backpacker moves on, with a set of statement designs, unexplored thoughts and a heart full of hopes, in search of novelties in the “most unusual places”.
