Malayalam cinema should borrow more from fashion world, said celebrity hair stylist Ambika Pillai. “Keralites are not exposed to fashion. In north India, people borrow trends from Bollywood. And Bollywood keeps track with each development in the world of fashion,” she said Onmanorama.
Saying that Malayalam cinema has nothing to offer the people in terms of fashion, Ambika Pillai commented that Malayalam film stars seldom style themselves inside and outside cinema.
“Cinema is a medium through which any concept could easily reach out to the public. Bollywood borrows a lot from events like India Fashion week. There, the worlds of cinema and fashion are intertwined. So the people get in touch with the new trends soon and they're kept in line with the developments in fashion industry,” she said.
She added that the Malayalam film circle should furnish more of fashion in and out of their profession so that common people would actually get in touch with ongoing trends in grooming and styling. “People in Kerala are never open to the concepts of beauty and personal grooming” - she said- “and that is just because they are not exposed to the wide world of fashion outside their closed window panes.”
