Mani Ratnam’s Kaatru Veliyidai, starring Karthi and Aditi Rao Hydari in the lead roles, is one of the most awaited movies of the year. The movie also brings back the much celebrated director-composer combination of Ratnam and A.R. Rahman.
Three singles from the movie's album have been released and won much praise from music buffs. The last single to come out was the wedding song - Saarattu Vandiyila – that had Rahmaniacs going ga ga over it. A one-minute-long video promo was also released and many are playing the song in loop.
While the song with its catchy beats won our hearts, something else just popped up online and we are quite surprised. A follower of music critic Karthik Srinivasan brought this Malayalam song to his attention and Karthik shared it on his website Milliblog's Facebook page.
“Thannakkum Tharo, from the 2013 Malayalam film Breaking News Live. It does sound a lot like Kaatru Veliyidai's Saarattu Vandiyila! Music by Mohan Sithara. Thanks to Shabeer Abdullah for the link,” Karthik wrote along with the song's link.
We can't help it but agree with Karthik. We are not sure if Rahman was inspired from Mohan Sithara's music for 'Thannakkum Tharo' but it sounds very close to what Sithara created at least 4 years back.
A discussion followed online about the song and many said that both the songs follow the tune of a well-known/popular traditional Tamil/Malayalam folk melody.
Listen to the song here and we rest our case:
