It's an undeniable fact that A.R. Rahman's super-peppy, addictive tune of 'Urvasi Urvasi' from the 1994 Tamil film Kadhalan continues to amuse us for its rich music and funky lyrics. The image of Prabhu Deva dancing atop that bus with glass ceiling is so fresh in the minds of the 90s' kids.
Now, Rahman, the man who rewrote Indian film music's path, has come out with a re-imagined version of his cult song for MTV's show 'Unplugged' and we're mighty impressed.
Even though it's for the MTV, Rahman sticks to the original Tamil song, rather going ahead with the Hindi version of the song. Rahman also makes the best use of his group of musicians for this fabulous piece of work.
But the catch of the song is the new lyrics used in the anupallavi and charanam. He incorporates Donald Trump's surprise win in the US elections and demonetization in the first stanza.
It goes like this:
Hillary Clinton thothu poonal, take it easy policy (If Hillary Clinton fails, take it easy policy)
Donald Trump president aanal, take it easy policy (If Donald Trump becomes the president, take it easy policy)
Ainooru ruba sella ponal, take it easy policy (If the Rs 500 note becomes useless, take it easy policy).
Aaiyaram ruba sella ponal, take it easy policy (If the Rs 1,000 note becomes useless, take it easy policy).
For the second stanza, Rahman used 4 crowd-sourced lines from his fans. He had requested netizens to come up with quirky lines for this version.
Watch, listen to this if you have not already - this will make your day for sure. Make sure you have your earphones plugged in.
