Kanhangad: A higher secondary school student has turned an overnight sensation on social media after she composed a song for a Malayalam short movie. The song, composed and sung by Haritha Raghunathan, has been viewed by more than 4 lakh people in just five days.

Thousands of more people are watching the song on a Facebook page.

The teen girl has already been asked to compose music for three Malayalam movies. One of them, featuring up-and-coming star Unni Mukundan, will hit the screens next year.

Haritha’s launch vehicle, a short movie titled ‘Bengali’, will be released on YouTube on Thursday. The 30-minute movie deals with issues of women’s safety.

Haritha has trained in classical music for 11 years. The young composer is yet to learn to play any instruments. She composed the celebrated song, ‘Entho Paranju’, in the Vrindavana Saranga raga. The song is written by Prashanth Karakka, the director of the movie, along with Sarath Akuri.

The girl is a student of the Iqbal Higher Secondary School at Kanhangad. She has been an active presence in the school arts festivals. She has made her presence in Urdu poem recital at the state level. She has won prizes in Mappila Pattu and folk music at the district level as well.

She has also participated in reality shows. Already a music teacher for small children, Radhunathan plans to pursue music as a career. Her greatest support comes from father Raghunathan, who runs an automobile spare parts store at Palakkunnu, mother Omana and sister Harsha.
