Jayasurya is one actor who rose to prominence in Malayalam cinema through grit and talent. The actor remained a force to reckon with ever since his debut in the directorial venture of Vinayan, Oomappenninu Uriyaadappayyan released in 2002.
Even as megastars and superstars kept the show running, Jayasura had carved out a space of his own and offered several marvelous films to Malayalam cinema. Meanwhile, he also tapped the business prospects in the film industry.
Known for his humility, Jayasurya has also been in the limelight for championing social causes at times. Now that cinema has become more of a business than art, he was posed with the question, 'when art becomes business, what aspects should be taken care of?' And, a brilliant speaker himself, Jayasurya gave a very intelligent answer.
He said, "When you have heart in your art, business will be made on its own." Any kind of art is a business. But when art comes into business, the focus should not be on business, he said.
"When the art in cinema evolves into a state where we find we can maneuver it towards business, it becomes business. But it shouldn't be that way. When we work sincerely in art it will become business, automatically," he said.
Only the things done sincerely have been successful as businesses here. I believe that art has several responsibilities. "When I watch a new film, what I gain or learn from it counts. I feel that a cinema or any piece of art should be motivating or inspiring," he said but added he wasn't sure whether all films were able to do that or not.
