Kochi: The Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) on Tuesday removed popular actor Dileep, who was arrested in connection with the actress attack case Monday night, from the organization. His membership has been revoked.
The action was officially communicated to the media after an emergency executive meeting of the AMMA that was held in Kochi.
"Dileep has been removed from the primary membership of AMMA in view of his arrest," Mammootty told the media. "We will continue to support the victim actress," reiterated Mammootty, who was flanked by superstar Mohanlal and Prithviraj.
He said the organization stood by the victim and it will continue to extend all support to her in her fight seeking justice.
"We are always with our sister. We have extended our support to her from the very beginning itself. We will stand by the victim," he said.
"We will never favor a particular section of people in AMMA. The organization is for all," he added.
When asked if Innocent would resign over the issue, Mohanlal retorted as to why he should resign. "He is undergoing treatment at hospital - that's why he is not present here."
The meeting was held at actor Mammootty's residence in Panampilly Nagar. Actors Asif Ali, Devan and Remya Nambeesan attended the meet.
The Kerala Film Producers Association and Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) also expelled Dileep.
Trusted Dileep like A brother: Mukesh
Mukesh said that he too was shocked when he heard the news about Dileep’s involvement in the actress attack case and the subsequent arrest of the actor. “Its hard to believe that someone whom I trusted like a brother would end up like this. All the movie associations including AMMA have taken strong actions against Dileep. I believed what Dileep told in the AMMA General Body Meet.
The 48-year-old actor is accused of conspiracy behind the abduction and assault of the actress, an incident that has sent shock waves in the state.
Dileep was serving as treasurer in the association.
