Shehin along with his mother Sabitha.
Kottayam: “There should not be any special day to show the love towards your mother. Each moment in every day is for the loving mother,” says Shehin Shaji who considers his mother Sabitha as everything in his life.
Shehin, a 17-year-old boy, was born a premature baby who could not walk until the age of 12. During the early age of infancy chronic hip pain was developed and the medical tests thereafter confirmed that he had been affected by hip arthritis.
Being unable to move or walk according to his wish, Sabitha stood always by his side for helping him. When he was 12, both the mother and son went to Vellore Christian Medical College for better treatment.
The days in Vellore were days of struggle. Sabitha was all alone as her husband was abroad and there were no one to assist her in the hospital. Shehin had to undergo eight surgeries in eight months.
His life began to see the light of change then. He started gaining the ability to walk gradually. Sabitha always wanted to give him the best education available here. The determination of the mother reaped its fruits when Shehin passed SSLC examination with 94 per cent and Plus Two with 90 per cent marks.
Now the teenager is a first year student of Political Science at St Thomas College, Pala. He wants to be an IAS officer. The mother in Sabitha is always ready to sacrifice further for the accomplishment of her son's dream.
One can say without any doubt that it was Sabitha's determination that gave a fresh lease of life to Shehin. On the day for honouring mothers, she stands as a synonym of sacrifice among mothers.
