Los Angeles: Pop queen Madonna is the latest high-profile celebrity to put her weight behind three jailed members of the Russian feminist punk band 'Pussy Riot'.

The 53-year-old singer appeared onstage during her Monday concert in Moscow with the words "Pussy Riot" stencilled on her back, said the Hollywood Reporter.

In March, two weeks before President Vladimir Putin back to the country's top office for the third time , members of the female band danced at Moscow's main, singing "Virgin Mary, drive Putin away!".

The three now face seven years in jail in a case that has outraged human rights groups.
