Palakkad: The GST implementation has not spared the LED bulb distribution program of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB).
However, the bulb distribution that was stopped post-GST has now been resumed after passing on the 12 per cent GST to consumers.
Once GST came into effect, there was an increase of Rs 6.96 on each LED bulb. Now, consumers will have to pay Rs 65, which includes the GST (12% from 58.04), to buy the bulb from KSEB.
In the first phase of the program, one consumer will be getting two LED bulbs. For this, a consumer will have to approach the section offices concerned with the receipt of the latest electricity bill.
Consumers could also exchange a defective bulb. Once every consumer gets two bulbs, the second phase of the program will commence.
The aim of the programme is to gradually provide 10 LED bulbs to household consumers and help reduce power consumption.
Before GST was implemented, the bulb was sold for Rs 60 each. Once GST came into force, there was no clarity on the levy on the bulbs initially. Later, GST was fixed at 12%. The calibration of computers with new rates also took time.
The distribution resumed after restocking and revising the MRP of the bulbs with the GST.
