New Delhi: Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Jio, the newest telecom company, announced on Friday that it has notched an unprecedented 72 million paid subscribers and extended by 15 days its rock-bottom priced data offer under Prime membership.
The company, whose free extended promotional offer came to an end Friday, also announced a complimentary offer for three months for those who paid Rs 303 prior to April 15.
Jio said it has extended the deadline for purchasing Jio's Rs 303 (and other) plans till April 15th, "considering the unprecedented demand".
"This extension will provide the necessary breathing room for users to avoid service disruption during the transition from free to paid services. Customers who could not enroll for Jio Prime by 31st March for whatever reason can still do so by paying Rs 99 along with their first purchase of Jio's Rs 303 and other plans till 15th April," the statement said.
It also announced the Jio Summer Surprise for its Prime members.
"Every JIO PRIME member when they make their first paid recharge prior to 15th April using Jio's Rs 303 plan (or any higher value plan) will get services for the initial three months on a complimentary basis. Your paid tariff plan will be applied only in July, after the expiry of the complimentary service," chairman Mukesh Ambani said in a letter to customers.
Idea offers free 1 GB daily plan
To match aggressive tariffs of newcomer Jio, Idea Cellular launched a plan offering 1GB of 4G data per day for Rs 300 a month to post paid customers.
Idea said it will offer "1GB data per day, for a month, on 4G handsets".
"The new Idea pack can be availed by all post paid customers on limited rental plans of Rs 199 and above," it said in a statement.
Post paid users will have to pay Rs 300 a month to avail the data benefits which are valid till March 2018.
However, for first three months, customers paying monthly rental between Rs 199 and Rs 349 will need to pay only Rs 200 extra, while customers paying rental in the range of Rs 349 to Rs 498 will need to pay Rs 50 extra, Idea said.
Customers paying rental of over Rs 499 can avail the offer for free for the first three months of subscribing the service, it said in a release.
After three months, all customers eligible for the scheme will have to pay extra Rs 300 for continuing the benefit till March 2018.
All telecom operators in the country are trying to match low tariffs that new entrant Reliance Jio is offering from April 1.
Idea has given time till April 30 for subscribing to its new scheme.
