New Delhi: Korean electronics major Samsung is recalling about 2.8 million washing machines in the US market after reports of injuries, in an another jolt to the company reeling under the recall and production halt of its flagship smart-phone Note 7.

However, the company said it does not expect its consumers in India to be impacted by the recall of about 2.8 million top-load washing machines in the US.

"Samsung India is aware of a voluntary recall announcement regarding issues with certain top-load washing machines sold in North America. We can confirm that this issue does not impact top-load washer models sold outside of North America," said a Samsung India spokesperson.

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a voluntary recall of 2.8 million top-loading washing machines because of a risk of "impact injuries."

"The washing machine top can unexpectedly detach from the washing machine chassis during use, posing a risk of injury from impact," CPSC has said.

This recall involves 34 models of Samsung top-load washing machines.

"Samsung has received 733 reports of washing machines experiencing excessive vibration or the top detaching from the washing machine chassis. There are nine related reports of injuries, including a broken jaw, injured shoulder, and other impact or fall-related injuries," the Commission has said.

Hit by product safety failure issues on its flagship Note 7, the worlds largest smart-phone maker Samsung has cut its quarterly operating profit forecast by a third.

According to the company's website, Samsung has lowered its operating profit forecast from 7.7-7.9 trillion Korean won to 5.1-5.3 trillion Korean won, translating into a hit of a whopping 2.6 trillion Korean won or USD 2.3 billion.

The consolidated sales estimate has also been lowered by 2 trillion Korean won ($1.7 billion) to approximately 47 trillion Korean won, after the company decided to permanently halt sales of the troubled Note 7 device, in less than two months after its launch.

"After recent incidents and in consideration of our consumers safety, Samsung Electronics has stopped sales, exchanges and production of the Galaxy Note 7," the company had said.

The revised pre-earnings guidance reflects the impact of this decision on the third quarter earnings, it added.

Samsung had announced the recall of 2.5 million Note 7 devices in early September following reports of the phones catching fire.
