Is Maruti Swift 2017 facelift worth waiting for? Maruti Swift

The 2017 upgrade of Maruti Suzuki Swift, one of India’s largest selling hatchbacks, was unveiled recently in Japan. We bring you an exclusive video of the facelifted Swift provided by Nadeesh Madhav from Japan.

Here is the first impressions and key specifications of the stylish and youthful new Swift:

Bold and striking

One of the most appealing features in the updated Swift is the new chrome-garnished hexagonal ‘floating’ grilles that enhance the overall appeal of the vehicle as compared to the outgoing model. The headlamps with LED DRL (day time running lights) give the front portion an aesthetically-pleasing look. The hatchback features blackened out A and B pillars. The fog lamp enclosure too is finished in black. Similar to the Chevrolet Beat, the rear door handle of the new Swift is tucked away into the window frame. The other key feature which stands out is the floating roof.

On the rear side, the windshield undergoes major changes. The design of the tail-lamp combines the visual cues of both Baleno and the old Swift. The elegantly molded boot door sports smooth body lines.

Added features

The Inside of the car appears well-designed with added features and a host of sophisticated devises. The interior of the new Swift is spacious and luxurious than the old model. It also gets a fresh-looking center console, meter console, A/C vents, and steering wheel. The other premium features that could be found in the variants to be rolled out in in India are the touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay, MirrorLink compatibility, automatic climate control system, and adaptive headlight, among others.

Impressive mileage, more power

The new Swift promises an impressive mileage, thanks to Maruti’s mild-hybrid system. The existing 1.2L petrol and 1.3L diesel engines will be retained in the new model, although it is claimed to be more powerful and efficient than before. Moreover, the new Swift will be equipped with the 1.0L Boosterjet engine, which will power the Baleno RS, to be launched in India next year, and the regular 1.5L engine self-developed by Maruti.

The new-age fuel-saving system, first introduced in Ciaz, will also be offered in the facelifted avatar of the Swift.
