Tata Tigor: a sporty ‘StyleBack’ Tigor

If the Tiago, Tata's best-seller ever since its launch, is a performance-centric hatch which mirrors the image of its global brand ambassador Lionel Messi, the upcoming Tigor is a stylish and luxurious sedan. The Tigor is not just another car for the beginners, but it is India's first 'StyleBack’.

Though the Tigor is being priced aggressively, it is wider and longer than the Tiago, and can challenge those bigger sedans in the segment.

StyleBack

Tata refers to the Tigor as a 'Styleback', thanks to its intriguing rear design, which is unmatched in the compact sedan segment in India. The Tigor follows a notchback-like design. However, in notchbacks, the rear glasses get lifted up along with the dickey, but the Tigor’s boot door opens upward like in regular sedans. It is one of the standout features in the Tigor’s coupe-like design.

Stylish like Volvo

The Tigor is well designed and has a luxurious air. The sedan bears strong resemblances to some of the Volvo models, but it could be a mere coincidence. The rear profile is sporty, youthful, stylish, eye-catching and has a distinctive appeal.

Kite concept

The Tigor is based on the Tata’s Kite 5 concept. There was nothing exciting about the design of the prototype showcased at the at the 2016 Auto Expo 2016. But the design received minor tweaks, especially in the rear portion, to distinguish it from its platform sibling - the Tiago.

Nevertheless, Tata's latest offering is longer, wider and taller than its sibling hatchback. The manufacturer does not label it as a compact sedan for the very reason that Tigor is not only spacious but it also comes with richer features, better drivability and connectivity than many sedans in higher segments.

Attractively priced

Despite being a cheaper model, the Tigor’s quality is not compromised. Its great design is paired with a spacious interior and loads of state-of-the-art features. This stylish product would certainly attract young executives and young families.

Youthful looks

The front-end design of the Tigor is similar to that of the Tiago, but from the backdoor to the entire rear portion the styling is all new. It has been loaded with fresh-looking grilles and a blacked out headlamp cluster. In the petrol variant, the new 15-inch diamond cut alloy wheels stand out. The diesel trim comes with a regular 14-inch alloy wheel. The Tigor also gets LED tail lamps with graphics and a roof-mounted spoiler.

Appealing finish

The Tigor's cabin design looks similar to that of the Tiago with fabric seats and high-quality plastic components. The dual-tone dashboard and trims and body-colored inserts around the AC vents on the dashboard enhance the overall appeal of the vehicle. The seats are big and comfy. The Tigor boasts of 24 in-cabin storage spaces and retractable hooks for bags. It also gets an increased boot space of 419 liters. The conventional gooseneck hinges, which intrude into the boot space, have been replaced with hydraulic units.

Top-notch infotainment system

The Tigor gets a five-inch infotainment system and an eight-speaker system from Harman, which cannot be found even in some of the premium models. It has been loaded with features like a Navigation App, Juke-Car App, which allows to connect multiple smartphones to the music system simultaneously, and a touchscreen infotainment system.

The Tigor is powered by a 1047 cc Revotorq CRDI engine with 70Ps of power. Transmission is very smooth, thanks to the state-of-the-art engine technology. There is considerable reduction of noise and vibration in the 3-cylinder engine. The 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Revotron petrol engine is capable of producing a maximum power of 85Ps.

Multi-drive mode

Both engines are available with multi-drive modes – Eco and City. The Eco mode stresses fuel-efficient driving practices, while the City mode offers great power delivery without frequent gear shifting. Easy to operate clutch pedals and a responsive steering make for a planted and pleasing ride.
