Kochi: The Union government’s decision to discontinue subsidies for LPG refills for consumers earning more than Rs 10 lakh a year has put oil marketing companies and consumers into a fix.
Though the NDA government said subsidies will not be given on cylinders booked this year, it has not given any guidelines to the oil marketing companies on how to go about the plan.
The companies have said that they will issue guidelines as and when they get directions from the government.
There is no clarity on the submission of documents regarding the consumers’ income. The government had said consumers who are entitled to subsidies can submit affidavits on stamp papers saying that their annual income is below Rs 10 lakh.
Since the oil marketing companies are waiting for a clear instruction from the government, consumers fear that they would lose out on the subsidies.
